Artwork Mr. Kaji Aso is a well established and respected artist in Japan and the United States. His work is in
the permanent collection of the Prime Minister of Japan’s official residence, the National Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo, the Modern Museum of Art (New York), the Museum of Fine Arts (Boston), Padua Museum of Art (Italy), the State Pushkin Art Museum (Moscow) and others. In Japan thirteen of his works are registered as National Property, the highest honor an artist can receive. When the National Living Treasures Tour came
to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Mr. Aso performed the final calligraphy and sumi painting demonstration.

Boston Though he was originally from Tokyo Japan, Mr. Aso spent more than 40 years in Boston. He was a professor at the Boston Museum School for over 30 years. He sought to promote a cultural exchange from Boston to Japan by establishing the Kaji Aso Studio in 1973 in the Fenway. He regularly took artists to Japan to exhibit and tour Japan's national treasures.

Poetry Mr. Aso regularly wrote haiku and other verse. He was also instrumental in establishing the Haiku Society of Boston which continues to meet at the Kaji Aso Studio.
He was also supporting the annual Tapestry of Voices a yearly event held at the Boston Public Library which showcases New England Poets in a "Poetry Marathon". He published regularly in Dasoku and published several of his own books of poetry.

Music For Mr. Aso music was a lifelong passion. Though he studied at Tokyo University of Art he regularly snuck across the street for voice lessons. He continued to sing tenor throughout his life. He also wrote numerous compositions and adaptations of established classical opera such as Don Giovanni, The Pearl Fishers, and La Traviata.

Philosophy Perhaps Mr. Aso's most important contributions came during Thursday night philosophy discussions at the Kaji Aso Studio. He shared his knowledge of Zen, eastern and western philosophy, and numerous other topics. Many of these discussions are being transcribed and published. These discussions are ongoing. Past topics include Art and Science, The concept center.

Stories Mr. Aso loved to tell stories. Where ever he went, what ever he was doing there, he always found or invented and interesting story.
Some of his more classic tales were performed as plays at the Kaji Aso Studio or put into book form.
